Situationists and Art Povera group, etc.
I'm not an historian so I don't intend to take a scholarly position, but
while there are significant modern and contemporary artists who have
used nature as a subject, few that I can think of have attempted to engage
waste and naturally degraded parts of the rural environment as a worthy
subject for contemplation and expression. (and what you're doing
seems very different than environmental artists who gather waste products and
blur the distinction between political documentation and aesthetics) So
while it's well accepted that the urban environment is a sanctioned art
territory, we still are less inclined to think of the rural as worthy.
Any thoughts? I like this way to approach your newer work as I believe
the artworld has wrung just about every drop out
of the binary logic ofurban vs. rural. I want to promote the rural as an equal partner,
culturally.
