Heaven’s Door
1998
wood, graphite, steel
80" x 32" x 4"
"Heaven’ Door" is an interactive kinetic sculpture. Three photos document the
motion of this piece. A handmade wooden door coated with graphite is attached
to the wall with a finely machined ball bearing mount allowing the door
to spin parallel to the surface of the wall. The viewer is invited to
give the door a gentle spin. The door will rotate end over end for approximately
3 minutes. The atypical movement of this familiar object alters the experience
of the room interior while creating a sense of vertigo in the viewer.
Please watch the video (below) to view movement.
