Jiriki
1989
wax, wood, steel
144" x 144" x 5"
"Jiriki" is a Japanese word translated as self-power. The form of this piece references a Zen Garden. "Jiriki" was a temporary installation commissioned by the Sculpture Chicago Symposium and was located in front of Chicago's NBC Tower. Two white cubes of wax "grow" through the top grid of the steel cage. Constructed in the heat of a Chicago August the wax contributed to the ambiguity of this piece. |
