The location of this piece, on the University of Illinois Springfield Campus which is adjacent to the State Capital, is central to it's concept. The generic neo-classical column found in Government architecture becomes destabilized here. "Impermanent Column" is a monument to change and was sponsored by the Art in Architecture program for the State of Illionis.
